Playstation 5 review
We had the privilege of testing the new console from Japanese manufacturer Sony, the Playstation 5. We were able to try it on different games and we will make our first return on the competitor of the XBOX SERIES X of the manufacturer Microsoft.
The main new features of the nextgen!
Sony is promising us a new look without breaking away from the DNA of the Playstation.
Indeed, both from a technological and aesthetic point of view, the new console promises a rediscovery of the video game world.
The first thing that jumps out is its new design, the controller and the console marks a break in the lineage playstation with a very clean style, the choice of a two-tone console, white and black unlike its predecessor the PS4 completely black.
The console adopts a vertical position, a decision that can be explained in view of the size of the console, being more powerful it becomes larger, this choice of layout allows to save space and to give a style that is close to a decorative object.
The controller adopts a new ergonomics, a new grip, a new color, and new technologies for new sensations in game.
DualSense offers a complete immersion in the video game, a high definition haptic feedback technology, concretely this provides a feeling of texture and resistance depending on the environment instead of using a simple vibration like on the PS4 for example.
The resistance of the joystick triggers becomes programmable by the user.
The last notable new feature of the ps5 is the release of 2 different models.A “digital” model without a CD player, which is understandable in view of the digitalization of this market, more and more games are available online and the network is of better quality, which makes it possible to quickly download games from home.
2 consoles for 2020 and at what price?
As you may have seen, Sony has decided to release 2 Playstations. For the prices we are on 399€ for the digital Playstation 5 and 499€ for the Playstation 5 with the 4K player.
A 100 euros difference between these two versions can be explained by the absence of the CD player but we can think of a commercial offer from Sony to encourage the customer to buy the digital version.
In the long term, this will reduce the number of physical game sales and thus considerably reduce the cost of the latter (packaging, storage, transport, distribution, etc.) and avoid losses.
The price of the PS5 games should therefore remain the same as the PS4, i.e. around 70 euros, but the margin taken by the brand will increase with the digital games.
Pre-order ? Release date ?
We know recently the important dates of these consoles, indeed the official release in Europe is for November 19. The manufacturer also gave the dates of pre-order which they are for late September. Unfortunately for all the fans of the console, stocks as well as pre-orders will be very limited as we had at the beginning of the Playstation 4 because of the COVID-19, according to our sources only 2 million consoles will be available in Europe. Sony mentioned this in a press conference and said that European countries will be stocked around March 2021.So it’s essential for anyone wanting the Playstation 5 to keep an eye on its pre-order dates. As a reminder, the Playstation 4 had the same problem of stock at the launch of the console, the console could sell x2 or x3 its price on online platforms between individuals. To avoid this, retailers have decided to limit the purchase of the console to 1 copy per person.
Strengths and weaknesses of the Playstation 5

Strong point:
The main strength of the Playstation 5 digital is its price, as it doesn’t come with a disc drive, and is offered at €399, a saving of €100 compared to the second version.
Weakness:
The main strength of the console is also its biggest weakness, because without a disc drive the way we consume video games will change radically. Even if downloading games is more and more frequent and replaces the physical purchase of CDs.
It should be noted that now the player has no choice but to buy these games on the platform of sony, the only platform that can sell games on playstation, where the PC uses the digitalization for some years and where multitude of platform are created.
Therefore there is competition and the prices of the games are pulled down on each platform and can benefit from discounts.
The exclusivity of the sale of the games creates a total control on the price of the games (no physical reseller, no digital reseller) and according to several rumours the price of the games stagnates at 70€ at the release of the Playstation 5 but will increase to 80€ afterwards.
The absence of the disc drive closes the doors of the second-hand trade, it is thus essential to know the type of player that you are, because once the game is finished it will be impossible to resell it. I’m not going to play the last of us for 15 euros because the single player campaign games where once the game is finished you can resell it easily and enjoy the gameplay at a lower cost.
You need to think carefully about the use of your console and think in the long term because saving £100 up front is not necessarily profitable given the price of games on the Sony platform and if you sell your games.
Standard Playstation 5:
Strong point:
Unlike its sister, the standard Playstation 5 has a 4K CD player that allows players without a very good internet connection to download their games, which are becoming increasingly large.
The standard Playstation 5 also allows to save the physical trade (Micromania etc..) a trade which for some players is essential. it will be possible to resell these games once completed.
Weakness:
For the moment, the only weak point we can find between the Playstation 5 and the Playstation 5 digital is the price because yes 100€ difference for a 4K player, it seems relatively excessive.
